For people like us
High, I’m Kevin Cranford: new father, old smoker, and a founding member of the Splimm team. I’m also an avid reader, TV nut, history buff, and political junkie, a highly educated, well-travelled millennial…among other things. And, as deep as the internet is and as hard as I’ve looked, I have yet to find a place for people like myself – a peer network for parents who consume cannabis and share a plethora of other interests – until now. That’s why we created Splimm!
Time to destigmatize
I haven’t always been so vocal about my cannabis use. I came out publicly as a cannabis consumer four years ago for a few different reasons. Mainly because I wanted to personally dispel the myth of the “lazy stoner.” That’s not who I am, and that’s not who my friends are. I’ve been lucky enough to smoke with doctors, lawyers, and legislators alike. None of them fit the stereotype of a stoner. By speaking out and putting a proper face to what marijuana users look like, Splimm seeks to help destigmatize cannabis consumption.
At Splimm, one of our main aims is to do our part in normalizing marijuana. Growing up in the public school system, I remember the D.A.R.E program. A program used to spread propagandized information about the alleged dangers of drug use, especially the ill effects of marijuana. Having a front row seat to such heavily biased material definitely didn’t help those of my generation make informed decisions later in life. As an adult, and now a parent, I see the importance of creating a space to connect and converse about cannabis culture.
A higher end of the spectrum
Splimm strives to be an authentic representation of parents like ourselves. We shy away from the “stoner-esque” and lean toward the higher end of the spectrum in everything we’ll be producing. We’re always safe for work – we trade the scantily clad marijuana models and for fall fashion tips. Like making dinner for the family every night or rolling the perfect jay for your weekend, Splimm is a labor of love best shared with others.
